29 April 2010

110 players drafted or signed; record-setting 95% head to NFL
(By TVN Staff)
After all the glitz and glamour that accompanied the red carpet treatment which happened on Thursday night of the NFL Draft, it was time for the to get down to business Friday and Saturday. As the third round progressed, the Oakland Raiders were on the clock and looking for an offensive tackle. The announcement came over the loud speaker at Radio City Music Hall , “With the 69th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select Jared Veldheer of Hillsdale College.”
With that announcement, the first player in the 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame Texas vs. the Nation game was drafted and the trend would continue all the way to pick 254 when the St Louis Rams selected Penn State linebacker Josh Hull. In all, 31 players from the 2010 Texas vs. the Nation roster were drafted this past weekend.
To break it down, in the 2010 NFL draft, the Texas vs. the Nation game produced one third round draft pick, three fourth round picks, five fifth round picks, 13 sixth rounders, and 9 seventh round draft picks.
By position, the Texas vs. the Nation draftees broke down to three quarterbacks, two running backs, three wide receivers, four tight ends, five offensive linemen, four defensive linemen, five linebackers, four defensive backs and one punter.
When the NFL scouts came to El Paso, Texas in early February, they knew there was talent on the field, but didn't know which players their teams would draft or sign as un-drafted rookie free-agents, but now the wait and anticipation of the draft is over for everyone and the dust is beginning to settle around the 2010 NFL draft.
The 2010 Texas vs. the Nation game has clearly helped players show their ability, character, and intelligence both on and off the field and scouts and teams continued to select the players from the four-year old game in record numbers.
Over a two-year period of time a total of 56 players have been selected and over 94% of the total players who have received an invite to the game (221 of 234) have been drafted, signed or given free agent workouts.
As the 2010 NFL Draft wraps up and players get ready to attend mini-camp, only seven players that played in the 2010 Texas vs. the Nation game are yet to receive offers, but several of them are now waiting on potential offers from the NFL, CFL or UFL.
Stay tuned as the countdown to the 2011 Pro Football Hall of Fame Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge continues. We will begin to accept nominations online from coaches, players, parents or scouts for 2011 roster prospects soon.
